About me
Hello! I am Makayla Meistrell, the heart behind With the Tides Wellness. I’m an Occupational Therapist, Certified Hand Therapist (CHT), Pelvic Health Practitioner, and Certified Yoga Teacher — but beyond the titles, I’m a therapist deeply committed to walking alongside people in their healing journey.
My path to this work began when I discovered occupational therapy and fell in love with the idea of helping people return to the things that bring meaning and joy to their lives. Since 2018, I’ve specialized in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation, earning my Certified Hand Therapist credential in 2022 — an accomplishment that represents years of dedication, thousands of clinical hours, and a deep knowledge of the intricate mechanics of the human body.
Over time, my curiosity and compassion drew me toward pelvic health therapy, an area often overlooked but so essential to our well-being. I pursued training with Lindsey Vestal, obtaining the certification of a Level I Functional Pelvic Health Practitioner. I have enjoyed weaving together my two specialties that connect in so many ways: understanding how the hands, core, and pelvic floor are interconnected through fascia, breath, and movement. I also integrate my background as a yoga teacher, using breathwork, mindfulness, and movement as powerful tools for nervous system regulation and whole-body healing.
I strongly believe that healing should be safe, intentional, and empowering. Every person deserves care that honors their story, their body, and their pace. I reject the idea that pain or dysfunction is something you “just have to live with.” Instead, I strive to support my clients rediscover hope, resilience, and confidence in their own bodies.
The ocean has always been one of my greatest teachers. I grew up surfing, spending countless hours learning how to read the waves and flow with the rhythm of the sea. Surfing taught me patience, presence, and resilience — lessons I carry into my practice every day. The name With the Tides Wellness reflects this connection. Just like the tides, our bodies move through cycles of strength, vulnerability, rest, and renewal. Healing is rarely linear; it comes with ebbs and flows. My practice is built on honoring that rhythm — meeting you where you are and guiding you with compassion through each stage of your journey.
When I’m not in the clinic, you’ll often find me surfing, flowing through yoga, or spending time with my tribe. These are the spaces that remind me of the natural rhythm of life — the same rhythm I bring into my work with clients.
